Game Board (Pre-Framed and Quick Ship)
Game Board and Blizzard are two images using my favorite materials: paper and Weimaraner. Both of these things are readily available to me and are easy to work with. A Weimaraner will pretty much hold his position and mine are accustomed to having paper over, under and on top. In Game Board, my dogs Chip and his son Bobbin were instructed to stand side-by-side on alternating black and white set paper. For Blizzard, Chip had to sit and stay on black set paper while white paper, tossed from above, fluttered down around him. It took several attempts to get the “snow” to fall relatively evenly so there were a number of takes. This piece recalls Dusted, one of my more well-known works, with my first Weimaraner, Man Ray. That image also required several takes. Man Ray had a particularly stoic presence evoking timelessness and serenity and Chip also had some of that in his personality. Game Board also has a precedent in the 20×24 Polaroids I took of Chip and Bobbin evoking Parcheesi and other classic board games. Even though both Blizzard and Game Board are color photographs they appear to be shot in black and white: black and white paper and gray dogs.
