Carl (Final Sale)
Carl is an enchanting sloop with a unique name. Many ships bear feminine names; despite Carl’s boyish moniker, this sailboat would still be referred to as “she”. Its odd name is just about all the information we have on the sailboat as well as the original photograph. We can guess the photograph was taken around 1890, but any further detail has been lost to history. Of course, this image’s mysterious nature is part of its charm. We’d like to imagine the occupants of Carl partaking in a bevy of maritime delights aboard this seaworthy vessel. Perhaps this particular shot was captured on a summer day off the coast of Cape Cod, or a cloudy morning near the Outer Banks. Regardless of year or location, an artful rendering of a sailboat will always strike a chord: peculiarly personal, up for unique interpretation, and timeless in its appeal.
